Hello World!, Coaching, and Job Search
Hello World! seems like a fit title for my-first ever blog post. But I also have some coaching comments and a hot job search tip.
There’s so much to talk about and so much that I want to share that I truly don’t know where to start. Feels like a first date when you’re both searching for something to say, before you’ve “clicked.”
Well, as a coach I know there’s a lesson here. What is it? When you’re about to start something new, there can be some fear or at least apprehension of the unknown. Then you have a decision to make. You can sit and observe and wait until the time feels right; you can go away and come back some other time; you can just jump in.
Now, I know the right choice depends on the situation. If we’re talking about performing brain surgery, for me, the right choice would be to “go away” or perhaps “sit and observe” if I was curious enough. But I’m talking about blogging.
I’m taking the “just jump in” approach. I recommend this approach when the stakes aren’t life and death. It’s an excellent way to accelerate your learning and even have fun in the process.
How do you approach starting something new?
“Something new” for me right now is blogging. Let me hear from you about your approach to something new you’ve tried. You can use the reply form below. (OH NO! I don’t know how to get the reply form to appear. Well, if you see it, you’ll know I figured it out.) I’ll share your helpful ideas in future posts.
Check out the Mother of all job search engines
Are you looking for a job or thinking about changing jobs? Here’s something immediately useful. Your task may be made a bit easier by using the new job search engine called Indeed.com. Its tag line says it well—One search. All jobs.
The site-owners claim that their FREE one-search-approach gives you access to all the job listings from the major job-post boards, newspapers, associations, and company career pages. Just pop in your search term and location, and you’re on your way. I searched for “welders in Denver” and came up with 279 listings (3 in Tuscaloosa). Know any welders who are looking for work in Denver or Tuscaloosa? (For more specific results, check out its advanced search option.)
Well, I’ll call this a post. See you next week. I will be posting on Fridays. I invite you to come back.
P.S.
I figured out the comment form thing. I simply check a little box when I add my post and then you see the word/link Comment on the right, at the end of the post. You can click that link to leave comments. When you do, I get to review them before they appear publicly so the posted comments don’t get polluted with crazy talk.
P.P.S.
If you’d like to use the Comment link to ask questions of me as a coach, then please do. These can be questions about challenges or issues in your life or career, or whatever else comes to mind. One thing you can count on: If I’m not competent in the area that you’re asking about, I’ll tell you. And if possible, I’ll point you to a resource (person, book, article, web site, blog, etc.) that may be of help.
